"Reclaiming Her Time" traces critical themes throughout Ballard’s oeuvre, recalling lost histories of African American women and embracing these narratives on their own terms. Through the use of reclaimed wooden fence panels and mixed media collage, Ballard fashions the artist as archivist. The fence, both boundary and barrier, brings to the fore questions of place and periphery. This body of work becomes a testimony to pasts still unspoken and futures not yet unfolding."
